We talk about vacation reads, but what about afternoon reads? The kind of book that’s longer and more fulfilling than an op-ed or essay, but shorter and able to respond to the world as things happen? Journalist Hillary Frey spent a year with her company Matter Studios trying to understand why the publishing industry has shied away from fast, timely reads, and searching for ways to produce them. This is what she learned.
