You want to go XML-first: Now what? Building an in-house XML-first workflow

The P-Shift team at UTP processes hundreds of books and thousands of journal articles through our in-house XML-first workflow each year. In this workshop, we’ll talk about why UTP chose the XML-first route, what our workflow actually looks like (including the types of XML we use for various purposes, and how XSLT and other tools facilitate parts of the workflow), and the benefits and growing pains we’ve seen over the years. We’ll also discuss what you need to know before you get started; must-have and nice-to-have tools; the pros and cons of free and low-cost tools; what else you can do with your XML besides making EPUB; and ideas and strategies for moving forward into an XML-first workflow.
